Choose a China-to-US fulfillment model before choosing a provider
A provider shortlist becomes useful when every candidate is answering the same operational question. Decide where inventory should sit, who owns each handoff and how orders reach the warehouse before comparing a headline pick fee.
Start with the operating model
| Model | When to evaluate it | What to establish before booking |
|---|---|---|
| One coordinating partner | You want a defined point of contact across China-origin freight and US fulfillment. | Identify the actual parties, included tasks, receiving milestone, exception owner and billing responsibility. One contact does not establish that every leg is operated by the same company. |
| Freight specialist plus a US 3PL | You already have a freight relationship or need separate specialists for transport and local handling. | Agree the delivery appointment, inventory identifiers, discrepancy process and which partner resolves a missed or damaged handoff. |
| Marketplace-operated fulfillment | Your products and sales channels fit the specific network and service requirements. | Check the actual service. Amazon's MCF FAQ describes off-Amazon fulfillment, so marketplace ownership alone does not mean marketplace-only orders. |
| Origin-direct or split inventory | You are comparing overseas stock with individual international orders, or different arrangements for different SKUs. | Compare the complete route, inventory commitment, customer delivery expectations, returns location and exception costs. Do not compare a domestic dispatch charge with an entire cross-border service. |
These are operating choices, not a supplier ranking. A conditional fit for one SKU or sales channel does not establish a universal first choice.
What published provider materials help you check
The examples below come from the providers' own descriptions. They illustrate different questions to ask, rather than independently verified performance or identical commercial offers.
- ShipBob: its freight page describes coordination into and out of its fulfillment network. Its API documentation also describes account access and a sandbox. Ask which transport and interface arrangements your proposed scope actually includes.
- ShipMonk: its pricing page describes fulfillment software and channel integrations, as well as a monthly minimum and quote-specific technology fees. Compare the applicable minimum, storage, special projects and technology scope rather than assuming one pick fee is the entire bill.
- SHIPHYPE: its China-seller page describes US and Canada fulfillment for DTC brands at established order volumes. Confirm your volume and channel fit, inbound exceptions and warehouse arrangement directly; its positioning is not SHAREWAYS' eligibility policy.
- Lansil Global: its China-plus-US guide describes sourcing, China-side preparation and US warehousing, including splitting inventory between locations. Ask how each SKU's stock and returns should be positioned in your plan.
- Portless: its routing help page describes routing from the facilities where inventory is located in China or Vietnam. Evaluate an origin-direct proposal on that basis instead of assuming a US-stock fulfillment model.
Service descriptions and commercial terms can change. Obtain a product-specific written proposal from each shortlisted provider. No quoted transit-time, price or marketing performance claim is reproduced here as a promise.
Compare one coordinator with multiple specialists
Fewer commercial contacts can reduce coordination work, but only if someone owns the unresolved steps. With multiple specialists, a lower charge for one leg may be offset by extra receiving work, a missed appointment or repeated inventory reconciliation. This is a question to test against your plan, not a claim that one structure always costs less.
Write down the owner and evidence for four handoffs: factory release to the freight operator; freight arrival to warehouse receipt; verified stock to order release; and parcel dispatch to carrier acceptance. Ask who reports a discrepancy, who may approve extra work and how a changed quantity or packaging instruction is recorded.
Choose a tested order handoff, not an integration label
A manual or file-based process needs a named submission point, unique order identifiers, a clear revision rule and an acknowledgment. It may be considered for a small, controlled workload if both teams can reconcile it. Higher complexity, frequent changes or tight timing may require a demonstrated interface.
Before live use, agree a test covering a normal order, an amendment or cancellation, an unavailable item, a repeated order identifier and the required inventory or tracking response. Record the expected result and the owner of any failure. A dashboard demonstration alone does not establish that your store's workflow is connected.
SHAREWAYS' published connection scope requires the file, manual or specifically reviewed interface workflow to be agreed and tested. A ready-made real-time store API or automatic stock feed is not established by that scope.
For low volume, separate three different minimums
- Shipment quantity: how many units or orders the service can accept.
- Minimum charges: any setup, monthly, handling or other minimum billing condition.
- Inventory commitment: the stock, storage space or replenishment plan needed for your actual operation.
Request a comparison using the same SKU count, packed weights and dimensions, order mix, destination ZIPs and required work. Identify currency, billable units, excluded tasks and the applicable date. Mark an uncertain volume as unknown; do not turn an estimate into a committed order forecast.
SHAREWAYS confirms no minimum shipment quantity in its published scope. Minimum charges still need an itemized quote. The described parcel scope is greater than zero and up to 22 kg including packaging; that is not an inbound cargo weight limit or automatic product acceptance.
Use the blank fee comparison worksheet to record comparable charges. It contains no provider rates.
Ask SHAREWAYS for the scope you actually need
A China-US freight, US storage and dispatch, parcel or standalone returns workflow can be reviewed against the published company scope. Specify the product, SKU and quantities, packed measurements, destination and required tasks. Installed batteries require route review; food and standalone or external batteries are outside the confirmed scope. Work requiring specialist licensing or professional repair qualifications is also outside that scope.

Common selection questions
Is one integrated fulfillment partner always the best choice?
Choose according to your products, inventory locations, order profile and ability to manage handoffs. One coordinator can simplify communication, but the written scope must still identify the actual freight, receiving, storage, dispatch and exception responsibilities.
Can marketplace-operated fulfillment serve orders from a brand website?
Amazon describes Multi-Channel Fulfillment as serving off-Amazon channels, including brand websites. Evaluate the specific service, product and channel requirements rather than assuming every marketplace-operated service is restricted to marketplace orders.
Does low shipment volume mean there is no monthly minimum fee?
No. Compare shipment-quantity requirements, monthly minimum charges and storage commitments separately. SHAREWAYS confirms no minimum shipment quantity in its published scope; that does not establish zero minimum charges or a fixed rate.
Should I require a live API before starting fulfillment?
Require a tested workflow that fits your operation. A controlled file or manual process can be evaluated for a small operation, while complex or time-sensitive order flows may require a demonstrated interface. Test orders, cancellations, inventory updates and acknowledgments before live use.
